Make More Art

No posts since Inktober?!!

Not good that 2019 kicks off with the same resolution as 2018 – Make More Art!

There has been some progress on my latest tree portrait….

A Girl Has To Have Coordinating Accessories!?

And I crocheted and stitched 15 Xmas presents.  Yes I need to focus on the main game!

Wild Stitch Art

I used some of my wildflower painting designs as embroidery motifs for a set of napkins while stitching as a passenger – travelling home to Western Australia.

I think the translation worked quite well. Any wonkiness reflects the state of the roads not me 😉

Sketches to Stitches

Rough sketches were translated to stitches – on the road.

  • Esperance Western Australia to Eucla
  • Eucla to Ceduna South Australia

Sketches to Stitches #1

  • Ceduna to Port Lincoln South Australia
  • Port Lincoln to Winchelsea Victoria

Sketches to Stitches #2

The sketches were much easier and quicker than the embroidery – but I’ve never tried sketching as a passenger!

Happy travels, happy stitching!

Stitching On The Road

I finished making a set of napkins for Ballicart on the way from home to Esperance WA.

Art with a purpose I thought, but then napkins still function without embroidery. Without the ‘art’ they’d be dull and boring – wouldn’t they?

The Debate Continues….

I’m glad I didn’t make any New Year resolutions for 2018 – especially not ‘Make more art!’

On reflection though, I have been drawing designs, selecting ‘supports’, composing,  coordinating colours, improvising, turning mistakes into happy accidents – so making a different kind of art – or is it craft? 😀

Silver Lining

At least lying down low in Alice Springs due to flu gave me the opportunity to  sew another napkin inspired by thoughts of home and our chooks.

4 down, 4 to go!  The aim is to reduce our use of paper napkins but I need to get over my reluctance to dirty these!

Chook Napkins

Without all the luxuries of home on board I traced my sketches, used a needle to punch holes in the tracing, placed the tracing on the fabric and went over it with an erasable pen.  Just enough of the pen got through the holes for me to then complete the drawing freehand.

Thankfully we’re now both improved enough to head to Curtin Springs tomorrow.

Hooroo
