My Art Is A Lie!

As I compiled the photo collage representing my month of July 2016 I was struck by how little it told of the whole.  In truth, disappointment, sadness, worry and illness dominated our July, yet my visual diary communicates only creativity, gifts, the beauty of nature and happy occasions with family and friends!

I thought that my art was misrepresenting the quote attributed to Picasso –

“Art is a lie that tells the truth”.

I decided to research the quote and found a translation of a very interesting statement made by Picasso in 1923 which reassured me.  In it Picasso states

“The artist must know the manner whereby to convince others of the truthfulness of his lies.”  If I’d not let you know you may have believed my lie!

Yet the partial truth is not a lie.  The happy, creative and memorable moments captured here were real and enriched our lives.

Hooroo,

Otherwise known as putting on a brave face, or out of adversity comes beauty. Without heart ache would there be poetry? Honest art is genuine art. A most thought provoking post, and I wish you the very best this month.

Life is a bit like that, a seeming lie can be a truth when viewed across the range of experience. The happy moment in a sad day. The laugh that comes unbidden …….
    A wonderful post 😀Xx
